Taloja Jail Constable Arrested for Smuggling ₹10 Lakh Worth of Drugs

In a shocking incident, a constable assigned to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai was apprehended while attempting to smuggle drugs valued at ₹10.08 lakh into the facility. The accused, Anil Asaram Jadhav, 38, was caught during a routine security check while on night duty.

On Wednesday evening, Jadhav entered the jail premises at 5:25 PM. As per standard procedure, he was required to undergo a security screening at the identification parade room, which included a thorough inspection of his belongings. Initially, no illegal items were found on his person; however, his behavior raised suspicions when he hesitated to have his tiffin box examined.

A vigilant constable, Jaywant Lahu Yadav, noticed Jadhav’s resistance and insisted on a more thorough search of the tiffin bag. Upon inspection, multiple sachets containing various drugs were discovered hidden inside.

Types of Drugs Discovered

The contraband consisted of:
- *Charas*: 123.87 grams, valued at approximately ₹8.68 lakh
- *MDMA*: 2.29 grams, worth around ₹1 lakh
- *Marijuana*: 40.57 grams, with an estimated value of ₹40,000
Additionally, five rolling papers used for smoking were also found.

The matter was reported to General Duty officer Ashok Chavan, leading to the registration of a complaint with the Kharghar Police in the early hours of Thursday. Jadhav is facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
